Weidman Michigan is in the heart of the Isabella County lake district.  Just at the north edge of town are the Weidman Mill Pond or Lake Weidman and Lake of the Hills.  These are two man made water bodies with Walker Creek being damned to form Lake of the Hills which flows then into the Coldwater River which is damned to form the Mill Pond.  A mile downstream on the Coldwater River is Coldwater Lake which is a natural lake and the result of large ice blocks being left behind at the end of the last glaciation. It is surrounded by housing except at the north end where the delta is being formed.  It is an all sports lake and has a popular Isabella County Park on the northeast side.  North west of Weidman is the Ojibway Chain of Lakes which is another populated area near Weidman.

So in the summer Weidman is a bustling area with all the lake people in town for the weekends and vacations.  There are a number of smaller lakes in the vicinity as well such as Perch Lake and Reily Lake.

Typically there are a few less than 900 people who call Weidman their year round home.  Located in western Isabella County it is an unincorporated bustling village.  Interestingly, the town is split down the main street between two political units - Sherman Township and Nottawa Township.  Actually, the township boundary runs about 60 feet east of the middle of the road which puts the businesses on the east side of the main street in two different townships.  It does also create some interesting zoning and land use planning problems since Sherman Township has their own zoning and planning while Nottawa Township is under the jurisdiction of Isabella County Planning.

Elementary students go to the local school on the west side of town which is part of the Chippewa School District but go to the high school located in Mecosta County.  A branch of the Chippewa River District Library is located just to the north of the elementary school.

The above pictures show the horses just east of downtown, Weidman Mill Pond at the dam, and the elementary school.  The pictures below from left to right show the Sherman Township park, the Chippewa River District Banch Library and Weidman Senior Center Building and the main street looking south.
