We came over thirty years ago - we intended to stay a few years and we are still here.  Mt Pleasant has that effect on one. The people are warm, friendly and involved in the community.  For decades Mountain town was recession free with the state oil industry centered here along with the growing University.   The main identity throughout the region for many years has been Central Michigan University.

Over the last few years though the identity has changed slightly into a resort destination with the development of the Soaring Eagle and a great number of championship golf courses.  Along with that have come the developing regional shopping complexes.  The city population is approximately 27,000 but with Union Township surrounding the city the population swells to about 47,000 for the 48858 zip code.

C  M U provides a number of cultural and recreational events but the town has many of its own activities from the Broadway Theater to the recreational leagues to the ice arena.  There are numerous festivals and parades in the viable downtown from Little Dickens Christmas to the Mt Pleasant Festival.   The city has more restaurant seats per capita than any other location in the mid-west.  Mt. Pleasant has a great system of parks most of which are developed along the Chippewa River where you can walk or bike on the paved and non paved trails from one end of town to the other.  Canoing, fishing and kayaking are all possible in the parks as well as many other activities from skate boarding to sledding.

There are many nice places to call home in and around Mt. Pleasant with a wide variety of activities to keep you busy.  Growth has been steady and there are a number of new sub-divisions as well as many historic homes in and around the area.

How did Mt. Pleasant get its name when there is no mountain for miles around?  The legend is that one of the original settlers back in the 1850's was from Mt. Pleasant Ohio and he thought that this was as great as the place from which he came, so he labeled this community Mt. Pleasant as well.
